Student Assistance Program

Various resources are offered through GuidanceResources for PO students. Please note that students will need their PO login to access the flyer.

Resources for food insecurity

The resources below include free school lunch and other support services for those who are facing food insecurity.

  • The National School Lunch Program (NSLP)​ is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day. 
  • Feeding America​ supports various federal food assistance programs that help people facing hunger in the United States.
  • Food assistance resources - Many government agencies and community-based organizations have stepped up to offer food to those in need. 
  • LA Regional Food Bank has worked to mobilize resources in the community to alleviate hunger. Find your local food pantry here.​
  • SNAP provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being.​

  • NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Children and Youth Mental Health Resources

  • Mental health resources for youth​ - This site from the California Health & Human Services Agency (CalHHS) lists an array of resources for youth including resources for parents, family and friends as well as schools and teachers.
  • The Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI)​ is part of the Master Plan for Kids’ Mental Health, a historic investment by the State of California that takes a “whole child” approach to address the factors that contribute to the mental health and well-being of our children and youth.

Black Mental Health Resources

  • Steve Fund is the nation’s leading organization focused on supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of young people of color.​
  • BEAM: Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective is a national training, movement building, and grant making institution that is dedicated to the healing, wellness, and liberation of Black and marginalized communities.​

Natural disasters​​

​Below, you'll find resources for various natural disasters.

  • Federal Energy Management Agency (FEMA) ​provides a number of services to assist individuals who are victims of a natural disaster. These services include low-interest loans, some cash grants, and links to assistance from other agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service and Farm Service Agency. For additional assistance, check with state and local emergency management organizations, as well.​
