This year's theme for March Writing Month was "Perfectionism." Perfectionism is a myth and the CARE Learning Center explored this idea throughout the month. See below for an exploration of each week's topic as well as the results of the poll.

Week 1 Poll Results

The topic for the first full week of March was the "perfect" student. Read the poem below to consider the idea of the perfect student.

Imagine the perfect student.

The perfect student gets started on their assignments early and finishes them with plenty of time before the deadline.
The perfect student does not ask stupid questions.
The perfect student understands all the concepts for the class immediately.
The perfect student is always on top of any upcoming tasks, assignments, and deadlines and is perfectly organized.
The perfect student has time to make healthy meals, sleep, hang out with friends and family, work, and still do well in school.
The perfect student never asks for help.
The perfect student doesn't actually learn because they already know everything.
The perfect student doesn't actually exist.

WEEK 3 POLL RESULTS

What are perfect study habits that students have?

The perfect study habit means being perfectly organized.
The perfect study habit means understanding concepts after reading the material once.
The perfect study habit means always being perfectly consistent with one's schoolwork, regardless of illness, changing responsibilities, or unexpected life events.
The perfect study habit doesn't exist.

WEEK 4 POLL RESULTS

The topic for the last full week of March was “The Perfect Writing Plan." The previous weeks covered the idea of being a perfect student, writing the perfect assignment, and having the perfect study habit is a faulty one in that perfectionism is a myth when it comes to learning and growing as a student. In the same vein, there is no such thing as a perfect writing plan. A strong writing plan comes from having a writing process that works for you.

See below for more information on the “perfect" writing plan and think about how having a writing process would better fit your needs as a student!

Imagine how you write your assignments. Do you plan how you will write your assignments? What does a perfect writing plan look like?

The perfect writing plan has no hiccups.
The perfect writing plan doesn't change.
The perfect writing plan means not having to go back to the assignment instructions.
The perfect writing plan can be a plan that worked for someone else and will work for me.
The perfect writing plan means that following all the steps to the plan perfectly will give a perfect assignment.
The perfect writing plan doesn't exist.
